Kichton Construction LP is the Fort McMurray-based Heavy Civil entity within the Kichton Group of companies which has been operating since 1963. Kichton Construction LP commenced operations in 2019 as the industrial division of the Kichton Group to serve the Energy and Mining Industries throughout North America. Since inception, KCLP has grown sustainably and exponentially, starting with 30 experienced team members in 2019, to now over 400 team members and over 300 pieces of heavy equipment.
The Role
We are seeking a full-time Maintenance Supervisor to work onsite in the Fort Hills mine and in the Fort McMurray shop as required. The ideal candidate is a Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician with strong technical and leadership skills. He/she is a self-described “master mechanic” who enjoys rolling up their sleeves to mentor, train and lead our heavy duty, auto mechanics, preventative maintenance and fuel and lube technicians. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience working in a similar role working on equipment involved in mining and oil sands operations. We will also consider applicants from out of town who can work on a rotational basis 2 weeks on, one week off. This position reports into the Maintenance Manager. Subcontractors may also apply.
Location/Job Details
- Fort Hills Mine, 90 kms North of Fort McMurray, AB.
- 12 to 13 hour days, 14 days on, 7 off. Night & day shift.
- Camp accommodation is provided.
- Flights are provided to and from Edmonton or Calgary. Bussing provided from Fort McMurray to site.
- Fast-paced, busy work environment.
- Repetitive bending and lifting up to 50 pounds required.
- Must be a good driver as driving in various weather conditions and on site in the mine (very rough terrain).
Compensation/Benefits
- Hourly wage is negotiable based on experience with OT at 1.5 x the regular rate (bi-weekly pay).
- OT after 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week
- 9.6% Vacation and Statutory Holiday pay on all regular hours paid out bi-weekly.

Responsibilities/Job Duties
- Provide training, mentorship and leadership to heavy duty mechanics, automotive service, preventative maintenance and and fuel and lube technicians.
- Perform performance/competency/wage assessments. Provide corrective action and discipline as needed.
- Determine/forecast manpower requirements.
- Put together and approve time sheets.
- Review sub-contractor hours and billing.
- Liase with the shop and field maintenance coordinators to ensure site has consumables and equipment they need.
- Assist crews with troubleshooting and repairing various types of heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, graders, haul trucks)
- Complete detailed service and repair reports at the end of each shift.
- Train techs on retrieving and decoding fault codes on equipment.
- Diagnose and decide if vehicle repairs and warranty or above your team’s scope.
- Responsible for sourcing part numbers and working with the Parts Department to order parts and filters for repairs.
- Complete daily documentation thoroughly, including: FLHAs, timesheets, pre-and-post inspections of all tools and equipment, etc.
- Review, understand, and follow all safe work practices and procedures.
- Report incidents, near misses, equipment damage, and hazards immediately.
- Positively lead toolbox talks and all applicable company/site meetings.
- Ensure that the team is remaining productive, working quickly and efficiently and in cost effective manner.
Education/Qualifications/Training
- 10+ years working in a similar role preferrable in a mine setting in the AB oilsands.
- Journeyperson HET certificate required. Extremely technically sound.
- Experience troubleshooting.
- Must be proficient in English, both verbally and written.
- Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a good driver's abstract.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
- Experience using B2W software would be considered an asset.
- Experience using Microsoft Suite of Products required e.g. excel, outlook, calendar,

Compensation
$45.00 - $55.00 per hour
